The Fed decides Tuesday and Wednesday with oil above $100 and September hike odds near 80 percent. Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft report into the split Alphabet and Tesla created. Zcash's Ironwood upgrade and Moonshot's full model release both land Monday and Tuesday.
Last week named six threads. This week decides several of them at once.
Oil crossed $100. Houthi attacks put both Hormuz and Saudi Arabia's bypass route under threat. Alphabet (GOOGL) and Tesla (TSLA) proved AI demand is real and expensive in the same earnings season. Intel proved some of that spending is already turning into revenue. Chip stocks whiplashed between last week's selloff and this week's rebound. Crypto held up through a war, then wobbled on Friday's stock selloff. New tariffs, strong jobs data, and surging oil pushed hike odds sharply higher.
This week brings the events that decide where several of those threads land. The Fed meets Tuesday and Wednesday. Amazon (AMZN), Meta (META), and Microsoft (MSFT) report into whatever the Fed says. Zcash (ZEC) upgrades its network the same day as the Fed decision. Moonshot AI releases its full model weights Monday.
Here are the six questions that drive the week ahead.
Great Companies Don’t Stay Under the Radar Forever
Most great stocks look boring when the real opportunity begins.
They’re still building scale, executing quietly, and being ignored by most investors.
That’s often when long-term winners are made.
The original market leaders didn’t become obvious overnight.
Our analysts believe the same pattern is forming again.
In These 7 Stocks Will Be Magnificent in 2026, we highlight companies that may look unremarkable today…
But you’ll soon see they all have the traits that historically define future market leaders.
Does the Fed Hike, Hold, or Split the Difference?
The Fed meets Tuesday and Wednesday. The backdrop looks very different than it did three weeks ago. Oil sits above $100, not near $72. September hike odds have climbed above 80 percent, up from around 50 percent just a week earlier. Jobless claims came in well below expectations too. That is a sign the labor market is not cooling the way some officials hoped.
Chair Warsh has repeated that inflation remains too high. He has not committed to a July move. The blackout period is already underway. Markets still expect a hold this week. The bigger question is how hawkish the language sounds, and whether September becomes the more likely moment for a hike.
What to Watch
The July 29 statement language against recent hike odds. A hold with hawkish language would confirm September is now live. A softer tone would suggest oil's spike is not yet changing the Fed's core view.
Do Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft Confirm Alphabet's Split?
Alphabet's $205 billion spending plan crushed its own stock. It lifted chip and server names like Intel (INTC) and Super Micro (SMCI) at the same time. Tesla's negative free cash flow added more pressure on platform companies too. The rest of Big Tech now reports directly into that split.
Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft have already signaled more than $700 billion in combined 2026 spending. Two or more raising that guidance further would likely extend the platform selloff. Any one of them slowing spending down instead would make it the first Big Tech name to change course.
What to Watch
Capital spending guidance from each company against Alphabet's number. Also watch free cash flow trends. Alphabet's turned negative for the first time this cycle. That detail moved markets more than the revenue beat did.
Elon's audacious plan to double U.S. energy,
without building a single new power plant…
People think he's crazy.
But Adam O'Dell says he's already deployed 4,000 units of his solution across 14 states — and used them to power the largest supercomputer on the planet.
With Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Facebook set to spend $680 billion this year on AI data centers that can't get enough power to run, Elon's solution is about to be in extraordinary demand.
Go here now to see how he's going to do it — and get one of Adam's top picks to play it absolutely free.
Does Oil Hold Near $100 or Give Back the Spike?
Oil crossed $100 this past week. Houthi forces attacked two Saudi tankers on Saudi Arabia's main bypass route around Hormuz. That is a very different inflation backdrop than the one the Fed faced three weeks ago.
A ceasefire before Wednesday would reverse a chunk of the spike quickly. A further attack, especially anything near Iran's Kharg Island export terminal, would push oil higher right into the Fed's decision window.
What to Watch
Any ceasefire headline or new Houthi attack before Wednesday. Also watch Brent against $100 daily. A close back below $90 would ease pressure on Wednesday's statement.
Does the Chip Trade Confirm Intel's Signal or TSMC's Warning?
Intel proved this week that AI spending can turn into real supplier revenue. TSMC (TSM) proved the opposite risk stays alive. It posted record results and still got sold for raising its own spending plan.
This week tests which pattern holds. Amazon, Meta, or Microsoft pointing to tight chip and server supply on their calls would support the Intel side of the trade. Spending increases without any matching supplier strength story would make TSMC's fate look more like the rule than the exception.
What to Watch
Any Big Tech name naming supply constraints or specific chip and server partners this week. That would confirm chip and server names are still the safer AI bet, even as platform spending draws more scrutiny.

Does Bitcoin Hold Support Through the Fed and a Network Upgrade?
Bitcoin spent most of last week climbing. A seven day streak of spot ETF inflows helped it clear $66,000 for the first time since June 17. Friday's stock selloff pulled it back toward $65,000. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index dropped to its lowest level since June.
Two catalysts land early this week. Zcash's Ironwood upgrade goes live Tuesday, the same day as the Fed decision. Moonshot AI releases its full Kimi K3 model weights Monday. That is a fresh test of how much ground Chinese AI labs are closing on the leaders. The Senate's Clarity Act still faces ethics language fights before the August recess.
What to Watch
A close above $67,000 with continued ETF inflows would signal crypto is shrugging off the stock market's AI worries. A break below $62,000 would confirm rate and risk sentiment still control the tape.
Does the Labor Market Stay Tight Enough to Keep a Hike Alive?
Jobless claims fell to 187,000 this past week, well below expectations of 212,000. That reading argues against the idea that the labor market is cooling quickly. ADP data earlier in the month showed hiring slowing at the edges. That is a more mixed signal than claims alone suggest.
This week's PCE inflation print lands Thursday, one day after the Fed decision. It is the last major data point before the committee meets again. It will show whether June's price pressures are already showing up in the Fed's favored gauge.
What to Watch
Initial jobless claims against 200,000 heading into the print. Also watch PCE month over month against 0.3 percent. A hot reading paired with tight claims data would build the case for a September hike quickly.
Porter Stansberry's Critical New Warning:
Trump Is Replacing The U.S. Dollar
"The last time America reset its money, it created 1,300 millionaires every day. This could be bigger."
Six threads named last week. Six questions decide several of them at once this week.
The Fed's decision Tuesday and Wednesday sits at the center of everything else. Oil above $100 shapes the inflation picture the committee walks into. Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft report directly into the split Alphabet and Tesla created. Their results give the market its clearest read yet on whether AI spending is cracking, or just rotating from platforms to chips and servers. Crypto gets its own test too. A network upgrade and a fresh Chinese model release both land before the Fed even speaks.
By Friday, the market will know where the Fed landed. It will know whether oil held its spike. It will know whether the rest of Big Tech confirmed or broke last week's split. Those answers should set the tone heading into August.
